Boot Women | Boot Women is a walking group for women, primarily lesbians, based in Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

Our May walk takes us to Cannock Chase, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where we will walk through Sherbrook Valley. Our 6.5 miles long route includes the Stepping Stones across Sher Brook.

We will first walk down the valley. There are a couple of short inclines en route to the Stepping Stones where we will have lunch.
We will then cross the brook over the Stepping Stones. They can be slippy so please take care. The walk continues back up the valley and is one steady incline. The last half mile is quite steep.

The paths are muddy in places so good walking boots/shoes are recommended.
The paths are also shared with horse and mountain bike riders so can be busy and we will need to allow them to pass safely.

Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water and wear suitable footwear and clothing for the long walk as it may be muddy.

Dogs are welcome but will need to be on a lead in some parts due to animals being in the fields.

Next walk: Shire Country Park, 9 April 2023

Our Easter Sunday walk will be through the Shire Country Park in south Birmingham.

The Shire Country Park is a local nature reserve along the River Cole Valley, with a mixture of wetlands, grasslands, woodland and heath. The park was named to honour the life and work of J.R.R. Tolkien who lived within its borders as a young child. Tolkien’s childhood adventures in the park are said to have inspired some of his later works.

The 6.5 km circular walk takes us from Sarehole Mill, an eighteenth century watermill, along the river Cole. The walking is generally easy and there are no stiles.

As on all of our walks we will stop for a break so bring something to eat and drink. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead.

Next walk: Iron Bridge, 12 March 2023

Our March walk will be the Iron Bridge to Much Wenlock Circular Walk.

This is a 10 mile walk through the Shropshire rolling countryside starting in the historical town of Iron Bridge. We will head out of the valley up into the farmland and walk to the village of Much Wenlock where we can stop for a drink and eat lunch before heading back to Iron Bridge.
The walk is a mixture of fields, woods and country lanes, and there are a few short inclines.

Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water and wear suitable footwear and clothing for the long walk as it may be muddy.

Dogs are welcome but will need to be on a lead in some parts due to animals being in the fields.

Please wear suitable shoes / boots and remember to bring some lunch / drinks and something to sit on.

In February, come with us to Lovely Lichfield…..x3 pools, x2 pubs same one twice and x1 massive cathedral!!

…….with appearances by a swan, a titanic and a man called Darwin sat at his desk!!

The route is 4.5 to 5 miles long, all on good paved surface so trainers are fine and no walking boots needed. There are no stiles or gradients.

This is mainly an urban walk so any doggies would have to spend the majority of the walk on a lead.

Next walk: Northycote Farm and Country Park, 8 Jan 2023

In January, we’ll be celebrating our vice chair Denny’s birthday with a nice walk followed by refreshments.

The walk will be in Northycote Farm and Country Park. This working farm covers 90 acres of mature woodland, fields and untouched meadowland. Our route is an easy 3 mile walk on mostly established pathways around the woodlands. Some areas can be muddy so appropriate footwear is advised.

The Tudor farmhouse is currently closed but luckily the tearooms are open until 3pm. We will conclude our walk there and enjoy a well-deserved cuppa.

Our final walk of the year will be a relaxing 2-3 mile exploration of the canals around Birmingham city centre. A visit to the Christmas Market on Victoria Square will conclude our walk.
Towpaths might be a bit slippery so please ensure you wear appropriate footwear.

Our relaxing November walk encompasses two parks and a runway, with plane and parrot spotting included for free.
The route is a mostly flat 4.5-5 miles with no stiles or gradients. We will stroll from Elmdon Park to Sheldon Country Park and back.
The route has a well-paved surface throughout so no need to don your walking boots, a pair of sturdy trainers should do.
This is a walk that is well-suited for dogs, with lots of running around space.

Please remember to bring some lunch / drinks and something to sit on.
Well-behaved dogs are also welcome.

Next walk: Clent and Waseley Hills, 9 Oct 2022

This month’s walk is a 9.4 mile circular route in the Clent and Waseley Hills.
The route includes three principal summits: Windmill Hill (285m), Walton Hill (316m) and Clent Hill itself (309m), and the estimated duration is 4.5 hours.

Please note that due to the length and degree of challenge, this walk may not be suitable for everyone, but your efforts will be rewarded with some spectacular views.

Given the length of the walk, we are aiming for a prompt 10.30 start. Please try to ensure that you are there in good time.

Please wear suitable shoes / boots and remember to bring some lunch / drinks and something to sit on.

Well-behaved dogs are also welcome.
